A-Poké-lypse now! part 1

The little girl had reached the end the entrance to a sidestreet. A blissey emerged, and I heard someone yell 'Softboiled! Quickly!'. It was Jonny. He didn't look much older, but much the worse for wear. We couldn't be too far in the future, but clearly the world had been in chaos for a while.
Blissey started to glow, and as the egg in it's pouch shone white, Azurill's cries became less painful. Older Jonny handed Blissey a six-pack of big bottles of lemonade, and then began frantically spraying her with pink bottles (Hyper potions?). 'Now the others! Help everyone you can!'
Blissey began chugging lemonade for all she was worth, restoring her health as quickly as she gave it away, and the light from her egg intensified, sending healing beams out, back down the side road, to Azurill, and off down the street, striking other Pokémon that were emerging, backing towards us, or being helped along by desperate looking people. I recognized a ruin maniac, several bug catchers, hex maniacs, a rich boy, a group of aroma ladies, sobbing young trainers, a few people from college and school, all manner of Pokémon, and, flying above the crowd, providing cover from falling debris and blasts shooting by over head, a mighty, roaring Charizard, being ridden by slightly older Ragnarok. He shouted something down to a Garchomp leading the group up the road. It nodded and ran off, I have no idea where.

The shadow over us lifted, restoring a half-light to our surroundings, as there was a tremendous crashing sound, and the city shook. I turned to see a building turn to dust as something huge skidded down the street towards us. A huge green claw slid to a stop a little behind us, and as the dust settled, I saw the rest of the huge green dragon, lying still on the ground, scarred and roaring. Rayquaza's eyes weren't even swirls. They were closed. His roar gave way to a whining groan, and it's attempt to lift it's head ended as it collapsed. We just looked on, in shock, but I heard future Ragnarok swear loudly, and fluidly.'T! Tempest! Are you there? Don't tell me you actually went up there on him! T!!!'

There was a yell from above, and a speeding bolt of some kind plummeted towards us. More dust and rubble flew into the air, as a crater exploded in the street.
'Oh you idiot! Jumping off? What did you think would happen! You'd float gently back to earth? When Spoinks fly!'
I saw an older version of me get up, dust himself off, and examine a tattered remnant of sleeve, where there was now nothing but a hardened, rounded, white shoulder, with a small pink gem in it. 'Damn, this was my favourite shirt. Don't worry, I'm ok...mostly. We each have to make use of what we have available. In my case, a shoulder that can survive almost anything.'
He saw us. 'Oh God, I forgot, this is when we turn up. For pity's sake, get out of here you lot! Fat lot of help we'll be if you get killed! Go on, move!'
He turned back to future Rag 'How's Don doing?'
'Don't know, last I heard....'
As they carried on in urgent whispers, I looked at Kirlia. 'They...they can see us. We're covered in dust from this terrible place, and I just warned us not to get killed. Are you sure we're just projections LOOKING at the future?'
'It..it is possible..that interference at this end..from Dialga and Palkia...has caused us to appear here fully.'
We waited, on tenterhooks, as Kirlia closed it's eyes and concentrated. 'It is impossible to shut down the Future Sight from this location. Temporal and Spacial distortion have pulled us fully in.'
At this point we were forced to run, because a bolt of pink energy hit the building next to us, and it began to dissolve into little specks of pink light. A man nearby pulled out a Pokéball, and said 'Go! Scizor!' before being struck by a beam of blue light, and a strange roar was heard. Scizor leapt from his ball, only to be dragged back inside, and for the man to tuck his ball away again. He then brought it out once more, summoned Scizor, and watched as it escaped and returned to it's ball. This continued in a loop, and we were forced to leave him, and flee up a side road. Pichu, squirming in Rag's hands, leapt free and tore off, desperate to escape the chaos. We chased after, and found ourselves in what had been Market square. Pichu had stopped short, confronted by a Pokémon. It should have been a dusclops, but it was completely black, with wisps of black energy wafting from it. It had a shadow ball in it's claw, and it was closing in on Pichu, who gave out a cry of fear, and fell backwards, sparks flying from it's cheeks in terror.

Never met a Kirlia like you before!

Ok, let me first catch you up on major events since camping:

Rattata is now level 10, and has learned bite.
Charmander is now level 9, and learned ember during a rather intense training battle between him and Rattata.
Caterpie is now level 8, but decided, not too become a Metapod just yet. (I know, it sacrificed 'Harden' for the ability to move, shocking :P) I thought we'd have trouble bonding, with us attacking him and everything (I've always wondered about that) but it turns out some lemonade can do wonders for a friendship.
Happiny is level 4, knows pound and charm, and is very happy.
Don is still a little weird with his Hitmonchan, but he's more comfortable with him, slowly. I gave him my pocket pokédex book, to help catch him up a bit.

I think that's it, the shard hasn't done anything since last time, my DSDex hasn't called any emergency's, so that's that.
Oh! Ragnarok thinks he knows exactly where it came from. As you'll see from the address bar of this blog, I've always suspected where it came from, but Rag thought he knew exactly. He put 'The rise of Darkrai' on, and fastforwarded it to about 4 minutes in. Dialga was firing draco meteor? at Palkia, and Rag slowed it down to frame by frame to show me. 'Ok, you see here... the attack's just hit, and a big crack spreads across the gem. You see this bit in the middle where it's just white? That's a gap, a hole...it clears up quick enough, but here..hang on, frame too far..here, can you see a tiny pink line just past his head? I reckon that's it breaking off and falling into our dimension.'
'So, you're explaining an alien crystal shard embedded in my shoulder that sets of a string of events that could destroy two worlds that apparently we have to deal with, on a bit of shading from a cartoon movie?'
'..Yes?'
'Eh, works for me, makes about as much sense as the rest of this..'

So, to business. Everyone had met at the old shop, and we were generally just taking advantage of having somewhere to hang out with our pokémon, and people we could talk to about them. Don was teaching Hitmonchan Karate (His specialty, and as the punching pokémon, Hitmonchan isn't so good with the footwork, so it was a good idea.)
Jonny was playing ruby and watching Happiny play with Charmander and my Pokémon, and me and Dan were studying Rise of Darkrai and trawling the web for any information on what the shard might do. This was not going well.

'So, quick question.' said Don, looking over at us. 'Why do we have to save the world? This doesn't seem so bad, so what if our worlds merge? Anyone have any idea what would actually happen?'

There was a small flash of white light in the middle of the room, and another piece of paper fell to the floor. I grabbed it, falling of my chair in haste as I scanned it. 'It's from Moira! Everyone, listen! She says that she's sending us 'Tingle's Partner' and that they 'were destined to fill the void of the boy with one fate.' whoever that is. Apparently he never existed in this universe, and this pokémon she's sending took his place, but was 'Tingle's' partner.

'Seriously, who's this Tingle she keeps mentioning?'

'I don't know, unless she means...but know, how could she-'

There was a slight gust of wind, and I was cut of by a cry of 'Liiiiiiiaaaaaaa!' a silhouette of light appeared where the paper had. it looked somewhat like a ballerina, but with a small, spiky lump sticking out of one side. It solidified into a Kirlia, with a rather windswept looking Pichu clinging on to it's skirt for dear life. It let go, fell over, giggled, and got it's feet, looking around at this new place. Kirlia turned to me, and an aura of psychic energy glowed faintly around it as it stared at me. As our eyes locked, I could understand it.

'Moira sent me to show you...to show you..why you are needed...why the shard was sent....to you....and why...the collision...must be handled correctly.'

'Please tell me you all heard that?'
Everyone had. I saw the Pichu stumble abit. Clearly hitchiking a teleport is a rough ride.
'You ok little guy?'
'I'll check on him. Anyone got a berry?'
I tossed Ragnarok an orange as he knelt down by the Pichu, and then addressed Kirlia.
'Ok, why DID Moira stick this thing in my shoulder?'
'I must...show you...though...my heart flutters at the thought of seeing it again.'
'Seeing what?'
'All...will be revealed.'
Kirlia closed it's eyes, and floated a few inches into the air. Wind whipped around us again, and rings of psychic energy emanated from Kirlia, as Jonny pulled Happiny closer to him, and Hitmonchan nervously punched the air. Rattata climbed to my shoulder, Caterpie frantically gripped my shoe, and Charmander pulled at Rag's trouser leg, before hugging it tightly, as the old shop changed around us, become ruins, the ceiling gone, half the walls collapsed, giving way to a murky orange sky, with swirls of purple and black, as smoke columns rose around us, and cries filled the air. There were a couple of tombstones set up in a corner of the room, already too damaged to be readable, and cries began to fill the air. We were too stunned to move for a moment, but I ran outside, followed swiftly by the others.

Cambridge was in chaos, Kings college had almost completely gone, nothing more than rubble. Part of the chapel remained, with one and a half of it's pointed towers remaining. the whole one now had a definite blue edge too it, and the half destroyed one was almost pink. The remains of a bridge between the two, which didn't exist in our time, hung in the gap in between sticking out from the blue tower. There were large fires in the distance, and a twisted, bent over lampost nearby was covered in ice. There was a thick cloud of black, swirling fog in the middle of the road, and bolts of blue, pink, and black energy arched through the air. A small girl ran past us, sobbing, cradling a small blue lump, which was shivering. As she ran on, in a swimsuit with a rubber tube around her waist, yelling 'Blissey! Blissey! I want to go home!' I was too heartbroken to speak. Somehow, Jonny found words.

'Was that Azurill...bleeding? I didn't know they could even do that...I....'
I could feel a tear sliding down my face as I watched her run on, looking for help.
'We cannot assist...we are merely visions...' thought Kirlia, sounding choked.
The sky opened, and a mighty roar filled the air, as a huge shadow engulfed the street.
'Point taken.' Don said, in a small voice. 'Can we go home now?'

It's a trap!

I may have to rein in Rattata's nightly explorations. Dad's started putting out those traps that have a sliding door. It's not like it would kill him, and he'd have a hard time fitting in one, but it would raise awkward questions.

Camping with a Caterpie! part 2

'Uh, Dad, can we stop at the next services? I, uh, need a drink.'
3 miles later, and I tell Dad I'll catch him up as he goes to get coffee. I turn round and peer into the back. 'Glaceon! What?!'
'Glay! Glacey!'
'Yeah, I got nothing of that. Unless, was that danger?'
'Cee!'
'Huh. What?'
Glaceon stuck his head in my bag, and pulled out my DS, put it on the back seat, and pointed at the flashing red light with a paw.
'Oh! Thanks! Good thing one of us is paying attention..'

I flipped it open. On the top screen were two spheres, with edges touching. There were three small circles above the left one, blue, pink, and black. On the bottom screen, 'Dimensional Collision:' was flashing in large letters, and underneath it, a number kept flickering between 1 and 2%.

'Is this what it was flashing about? It's getting worse?'
'Cee!'
'We're probably going to have to look into this...'
'Ceeeee.......'
'Oh dear. Well, You look cramped and I really do need a drink, plus I promised Rattata he could come out. Lets all stretch our legs.'

I showed Rattata the screens, but he seemed more confused by it that Glaceon had been. I was worried they'd attract attention, but most people seemed to think nothing of them. I swear a couple of people couldn't see them at all. One lady asked if she could stroke my 'adorable dog' and Glaceon allowed a little scratch under his chin before getting bored and wandering off.
'Aw, he's lovely. What's he called?'
'uuuh...I'd better get after him before he wanders too far'
I turned back to her 'Um, what sort of dog would you guess he is?'
'Oh, I have no idea about names, he's just a lovely looking dog. He's got that gorgeous fur that has an almost blue tinge to it.'
'Right. I mean, yes, yes he does. Anyway, uh, bye!'

I caught up with Glaceon, and we went off to get drinks. It took a while to explain that he couldn't come in, and he looked like he was about to ice me, but eventually he went and sat by a bush. Rattata hid in my pocket. I got us all some drinks, and we headed back to the car. Seeing Dad returning, I looked desperately for a place for Glaceon to hide. 'Please, find somewhere a bit better to hide. If Dad finds out about all of you, I don't know what'll happen, but we need to keep you a secret for as long as possible. You have to trust me like I trust you. You've brought so much fun to our lives, we just want to keep you safe.'

We locked eyes for a few seconds, and then he looked over my shoulder, and started rooting around by my bag. I saw Dad going round to his side of the car, and hurriedly sat properly in my seat.

'Everything ok?'
'Yep, got my drink, ready to go.'
I heard a faint 'dmm' sort of noise, and chanced a look over my shoulder. Glaceon was gone. Wherever he was hiding, it was good.

So we got to the camp, set up, and everything was fine until night descended. My pocket started vibrating wildly, and a friend of mine ran from her tent going 'ewwewwewweww!'
'What's wrong?'
'That is the biggest caterpillar I have ever seen!'
The girl she was sharing with poked her head in. 'What caterpillar?'

'Let me see'
It looked like a normal caterpillar to me, until I squinted, and it flickered and became much larger, with a pink Y shaped antenna.
'Ah, hello Caterpie. I'll take care of this guy.'
'I can deal with it if like-'
'No! Seriously, I'll take him...'
I scooped him up and ran to a patch of woods where there were no tents. This spooked him.
Stringshot does not taste nice. Makes it hard to move too.
'Ratta..bleugh..tack!'
He leapt, tackling Caterpie to the ground, and dodging another stream of string.
'Great! Again!'
'Ra!'
Caterpie lay on it's side, wriggling weakly. 'Peeeeeee'
'Awesome job! Now, if you'd be so kind...'
A few fang slashes and I was free. I felt in my bag, and brought out a Pokéball.
'Allyoop!'
it struck Caterpie on the head, and opened, in he shot, a blur of red light, and it rocked, blinking.
Then it stopped.
'Oh yeah! Caterpie's mine! Nice job buddy!'
I gave him some lemonade to make sure he was in perfect health, then let Caterpie out, and gave it some too. Then I got out the DSDex. It had been shaking for a while now, but I'd been too busy. It was flashing 'Ripple detected', and showed a dot on the lower screen, which had what appeared to be a large map on it, with a large sort of smudge further off.
It calmed down once I'd opened it, and seemed happier. I scanned my pokémon.
'Oh cool, our training's done some good Rattata, you're level 8 now, and Caterpie here's a male level 6.

I have to leave it there for now. Sorry, all of this happened ages ago now, but I've been slow writing it. I was going to add some minor stuff that happened at camp afterwards, but it's not important, at least at the moment.

See you later!

Camping with a Caterpie! part 1

Sorry, best I could come up with. :)
So, a couple of things to sort out first.
1: Don
Don came round, and showed us his find. It WAS a pokéball. Inside, was a Hitmonchan. Level 12. My DSDex showed it's blue exp bar half full.
'It should be level 25.' Ragnarok said, puzzled.
'And there should have been a choice of him or Hitmonlee.' I added.
'First there are half the pokémon at the 'Dojo' to choose from, then he's at half his normal level. Ragnarok, do think it's possible that the whole situation only half merged, as it were?'
'Possibly. Makes sense. But it's not like I'm an expert on inter dimensional collisions you know.'
'Ha. No, it does make sense. There couldn't really be half a level 25 Hitmonchan, so he arrived complete but at half the level. Anyhoo, Don, you beat Sensei, so looks like you've got yourself a new friend. Have fun, he knows Comet punch, Revenge, Agility and Pursuit.'

'Uh, right, thanks. I don't remember most of those. Have they introduced new moves since red and blue or something?'
Rag stared. 'Oh, this is going to go well.'

So, Don is the fourth member of our little group. Four teenagers and their pokémon, the only defense against two universes crashing into each other, letting havoc loose upon both worlds.

2. The piece of paper.
While we were waiting for Don to come round with Hitmonchan, I looked at the paper Rag handed me. It was a letter. It said:

Dear Tempest,
I'm sorry about all this. If it wasn't for me, none of this would be happening, to you guys at least. You see, I have the ability to 'Walk the Dimensions' and I've become a sort of guardian of the worlds. You see, there are many worlds, an almost infinite number, and one of them is the world of pok
émon. Yes, there is a universe where everything you have read and watched is real. Most stories or games are really just people picking up traces of other universes. I am the one that made the shard find you. I'm sorry to put such a burden on you, but I needed to know it was in safe hands, and not only are you experienced enough with pokémon that I think you can cope, but in other worlds, you are heroes. In every universe that needs protectors, you and your friends rise to the challenge, and do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe. I wish Tingle was still here in this universe, he would have met me, and this would all be much easier, but I know that you will do your best to protect the shard. You must, because I'm sorry to say, but when your world and the world of pokémon finally become one, it will mean the end of both. I will try and contact you soon. I'm sorry.
Moira.

So, that's that. Right, on with the camping trip.
Months ago, I had planned to go camping with a group I'm part of, the Woodcraft folk
, and it seemed pointless to cancel at this point. After getting everyone to promise they'd look after the Eevees, I prepared to go. I assume that when I walked out of the old shop is when my DS started blinking it's power light, but I can't say for certain, because I didn't notice. Someone did though.

So, me and Dad packed up the car and off we went.
Rattata had agreed to hide in his Pokéball until we got to a service station, in order to hide better.

As we go round a sharp bend, and our camping stuff shifts in the back, I hear a small 'ee!'

'What was that?' asked Dad.

Looking over at the back, I see one of our sleeping bags shifting behind Dad's chair. From under it, a small blue head peered up at me. 'Uh....just a sleeping bag shifting dad, nothing to worry about.'

What on EARTH was Glaceon doing here?

Thursday, July 1, 2010

The shard wakes.

Sorry, no cheesy title this time. This is a serious event, and it needs a serious title.

There still aren't many pokémon about, there are our partner pokémon, Glaceon and siblings, and the odd earth creature that looks different if you squint. Aswell as the bird I told you about last time, since I last posted I've seen a carp in a pond that flickered between normal and magicarp, and a bee that became a lot bigger when squinted at, looking distinctly like a beedrill.

Oh, I mention 'siblingS'. Not just just the one Eevee. And I should probably tell you about where we hang out in order to hide all the strange happenings. Let me explain:

I think I'd better start with where we hang out, because it's not just us anymore.

We have started (Since about a week before post 1) hanging out in an abandoned shop down a deserted side street in the middle of Cambridge. I don't know what made us go there, but one day we just felt drawn to that street while we were in town. It was empty, it used to sell videos and film cameras, stuff like that, but didn't upgrade with the rest of the world, and began to fail, until it went bust.

It was mostly empty, the windows were covered in dust, and a lot of the shop's name had faded, but the door swung open when Ragnarok pushed it, almost as if it had been waiting for us. Inside, there was a wobbly table, a few old swivel chairs from behind the counter, the counter itself, and stacks of old video tapes. Why hadn't they been taken away when the shop shut?
So we tidied the place up, put a video box under the tables short leg, got rid of some cobwebs, generally made it habitable, and started hanging out there. It seemed to make so much sense, we didn't know why. Still don't really, although it worked out well, sort of. That's where we were when the shard arrived in our dimension, that's where we had our battle, and that's where Eevee tried to seek shelter from the bullies.

Right, I promised to explain the siblings remark. Quite simple really. Glaceon has more than one sister. He has three. And four brothers. All Eevees, around level 10. Turns out Glaceon decided we were alright, got the Eevee we met to lead him to our abandoned shop, and then proceeded to move everyone into one of the rooms above it. Seems he now thinks of us as helpful protection. We have promised to do everything we can to keep his family safe.

Well there we go. On with post development.
About a week ago, (Sorry it's taken me a while to write this.) me and Ragnarok had met up again, although to be honest, we'd been meeting up pretty much every day since this whole thing started. Today though, Jonny had joined us, with the egg I gave to him to look after. We'd promised a proper look at our Pokémon, and we'd finally all managed to meet up together.

So there we were, watching Rattata and Charmander playing around, and Jonny had just asked if we could have a battle so he could watch, when my shoulder started tingling. It was such a weird feeling, I fell to my knees, clutching hard at my shoulder.

'What's wrong? You look like you're having a heart attack!'
'Thhhaaaattttt's your whooole LELELELEFT aaaaaarm!'
'Oh, yeah. Shard?'
Whaaaaat dooo yooou thiiiinnnnnk?'

A pinky purple light was coming out of my right sleeve, and I was shaking wildly.
Just as Jonny was coming over to check on me, a wave of energy erupted from my shoulder, and expanded to envelope the whole room, and then head through the walls, expanding rapidly, until it faded from sight, all in a couple of seconds. I got up, dizzy, head throbbing, and looked around. Rattata and Charmander looked happy, but a little afraid, and they seemed to glow for a few seconds, before that too faded. Jonny's egg was shaking violently, and I could smell a slight burning. I looked down. We'd decided to have lunch here. The strawberries were gone, but there were 9 apricots left. Or there had been.

The plastic tub they'd been in was now a puddle, and where they had been, there were steaming red and white spheres. Very small, steaming, metal balls. With buttons on the front. 9 Pokéballs.

'Wow.' I stared at them, shocked. I was joined by the others, and after they'd checked I was ok (Strangely, apart from the headache, I felt fine again. The moment seemed to have passed as soon as the wave of energy left me.) we divided them up. We each took two, and left the other three in a cupboard we'd fixed, so they were there if any of us needed them. Then three things happened at once. There was a small white flash in the air, and a piece of paper fell to the ground, my phone started ringing, and Jonny's egg started to glow.

Ragnarok picked up the paper, I answered my phone, and everyone turned to stare at the egg. I noticed it was a friend of mine, Don calling me, just as Rag said 'Ah, this might explain some stuff. Tempest, you should look at this. Do you know anyone named Tingle?'
'Huh? In a sec. Hey Don, What's up. Don't you have Karate now?'
'Hey T. Yeah, I do. That's why I'm calling. I was in the middle of a session, and I felt this weird sort of wave shoot through the room, and then as I floored Sensei, something appeared next to my bag. Nobody else seemed to notice it appear. It's been a few years since I played, but it looks like a Pokéball. Know anything?'
'Aaah. Maybe you should come round...'
We were interrupted by a yell from Jonny. His egg glowed even brighter, and hatched.
'Hap? Happiny! Happy happy happy!'
'What was that?'
'Yeah, uh, this will take a while. You'd better come round.'

Sorry this took so long to put up, I'll try and catch you up better in future.
